Proper Pub Food in Greenwich: What to Eat and Drink at The Admiral Hardy

Golden beer-battered haddock, thick-cut chips, a proper burger, real ales on tap and a wine list worth exploring. This is what British pub food is supposed to feel like.

A Greenwich Pub That Takes Its Food Seriously You do not have to wander far from Greenwich Market to find a pub that will fill you up. But finding one that will fill you up well, in a room with genuine character, with a pint that has been looked after properly? That takes a little more. The Admiral Hardy on College Approach has been doing exactly that for years, and the kitchen has only got better since the 2025 refurbishment. We are one of the pubs in Greenwich that believes food and drink should work together. Not one propping up the other, but both genuinely good, genuinely considered, and genuinely worth coming back for.

A wooden table features a large, well-prepared burger with a bun, lettuce, tomato, and cheese, topped with a toothpick. A side of fries is to the right, and two glasses of beer are on the left. The scene is set in a cozy restaurant, with a menu and a napkin nearby. The image captures a moment of anticipation before a meal.

The Food: British Classics Done Properly The menu at The Admiral Hardy is built around British pub classics, and we mean that in the best possible sense of the phrase. These are dishes that have earned their place on British tables for generations, and our kitchen treats them with the respect they deserve. Start with our golden beer-battered haddock and chunky chips. It is one of those dishes that sounds simple until you eat one that has been made well, and ours has been made very well indeed. The batter is light and crisp, the fish inside is fresh and flaky, and the chips are exactly as they should be: proper and substantial. Our burger is another dish that draws people back. A properly built burger in a good pub is one of life's pleasures, and ours is no exception. It arrives looking and tasting like something you would genuinely be excited to sit down to, not something assembled in a hurry. Beyond those, the menu runs through sharing boards, starters, satisfying sides, desserts, and a range of options for guests with dietary requirements. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-aware, there is always something on the board for you.

Three individuals in a relaxed setting, each holding a half-filled glass of beer, are dressed casually in a tan shirt and a black shirt. The beer is golden yellow, with a frothy head and colorful designs. The background is blurred, emphasizing the beer and the individuals. The image captures a casual, social gathering with a sense of camaraderie.

The Drink: Real Ales, Craft Beer and More The bar at The Admiral Hardy was expanded in 2025, and we now pour three cask ales alongside a range of craft beers, lagers and tap options. Our house beer is Admiral Best from Battersea Brewery, a Premium Bitter at 4.5% that has become a firm favourite with regulars. Alongside that, two rotating changing beers keep things interesting for those who like to try something new each visit. We also carry a carefully chosen wine list and a full range of spirits. Whisky fans will find plenty to explore. Our bar team know the menu well and are always happy to suggest something that pairs nicely with what you have ordered from the kitchen. The Setting

The image features the historic "The Old Bar & Barrels" pub in London, England, with a two-story building painted in warm yellow. The pub has a black awning and a green sign with the words "The Old Bar & Barrels". The street is bustling with people, and a bicycle is parked in front. The scene captures the lively atmosphere of the pub and its surroundings.

The Admiral Hardy is a Grade II listed Victorian pub with multiple levels, original features throughout, and a genuinely warm atmosphere that no amount of interior design could manufacture. There is a main bar, a first floor dining room, and the Market Terrace outside for warmer days, when sitting next to Greenwich Market with a cold drink in hand is one of the simple pleasures of living in or visiting this part of London. We are open Monday from 12pm to 9pm, Tuesday to Saturday from 12pm to 11pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 9pm. The kitchen runs until 8pm Monday and Sunday, and 9pm Tuesday through Saturday. Drop in without a booking or reserve a table at admiralhardygreenwich.co.uk.
